As a lover of all things eclectic, I’ve long been a fan of Cohoba’s unique style and elegant charm. Tasteful-to-a-tee, the villa breathes luxury in an unpretentious and inviting way. The owner’s flawless style shines through at both Cohoba and it’s sister villa Patois just a couple of minutes away (in case you have a larger group of friends or family). The distinctive colour palettes, rich wood, stone and brick accents are the perfect backdrop for the lovingly curated collection of furnishings and original artwork that create a relaxed mood of stylish escapism and comfort in the Caribbean. 

THE INTERIOR

A paved driveway leads up to the house with a pretty pergola in the driveway where stone steps lead up directly to the pool deck. The main pavilion houses the living areas downstairs, all of which have direct access to the pool deck and views of the ocean beyond. The pretty living room has plenty of comfy furniture to relax in as well as a TV, and it’s cooled by ceiling fans and beautiful wooden screen doors to allow for breezes (no AC). The indoor BBQ area is an unusual and fun feature that links the living room to a kitchen and the stylish and colourful formal dining room that invites festivities! A half bathroom is conveniently located at the bottom of the beautiful wooden staircase that leads up to the spacious master suite.  

 The 4 air-conditioned bedrooms (3 kings and 1 queen), each have luxurious en suite bathrooms and are spaced between 3 levels in the home’s 2 pavilions, ensuring plenty of privacy for all. The bedrooms are sumptuous and relaxing spaces and while the queen bedroom is smaller than the kings it makes up for it in style with a vibrant decor and it’s own private porch, one of the many relaxing nooks and spaces around the property. The main pavilion houses a gorgeous master suite upstairs with pretty blue walls, and windows highlighting the beach and ocean views in every direction. Two sinks and a large open shower complete the luxurious space. The 2 other king bedrooms are located in a 2nd pavilion just a few feet to the east of the pool deck and main house. Unique furnishings and original artworks make every room a piece of art in itself and the the upper bedroom has a lovely balcony while the ground floor bedroom has a little paved nook surrounded by tropical landscaping. The queen bedroom is nestled into the lower level of the house and a laundry room is available for guest use further along.

THE OUTSIDE

Cohoba’s located in the exclusive but welcoming rural estate of Belmont (we also happen to live at Smugglers Cove so I’m a little biased). It overlooks Long Bay and Smuggler’s Cove as it’s “local” beaches just a 3 or 4 minute drive away or it’s a pretty walk down but fairly strenuous exercise on the way back up 😉 Your heavenly views will be towards Jost Van Dyke and uninhabited islands like beautiful Sandy Cay and Sandy Spit. While the conveniences of the stores, restaurants and water taxis at Soper’s Hole Marina and the West End ferry terminal are just 10 minutes away although they’re out of view on the south side of Belmont Ridge. Belmont Salt Pond below is a natural reserve and important ecosystem that regularly attracts flamingos (there are 8 there this week as I write this in August 2023). 

That said, outdoor spaces are of the utmost importance here and Cohoba has somewhere for everybody. Loungers and seating are comfortable, with sun and shade to keep everyone happy. The outdoor dining table is perfect for shade during much of the day, and magnificent sunsets before dinner. You can be sure you won’t want to leave this mesmerising property, after just a couple of days you’ll be under it’s spell – enjoy!
