‘Dun Reach’ is a local term for when you finally reach your destination after a long or difficult journey, and as you arrive at this charming villa, you’ll be delighted to find that your very own island oasis awaits. This is a special place for owners Susan (born in Tortola) and her husband Peter who bought and renovated the villa only last year, and who are excited to share their gem of a home exclusively with Villas of Tortola guests.
They’ve created a beautiful, spacious and welcoming villa surrounded by the vibrancy of colour found only in the Caribbean. Lush greenery, bright splashes of magenta from the blooming bougainvillea and spectacular turquoise views over the ocean to Sandy Cay and Jost Van Dyke are all the perfect backdrop to a dream vacation.
Split over three cottages, this layout is ideally suited for two couples as each bedroom is privately tucked away in its own cottage. The layout seamlessly blurs the lines of indoor and outdoor living, and the design is the epitome of modern Caribbean elegance, with crisp, clean lines mixed with traditional features & artwork by local artists.
THE INTERIOR
The main cottage is where much of your day will be spent, with living room, kitchen, dining room and half-bathroom. High, vaulted wooden ceilings and plenty of large doors and windows flood the entire space with light, air and ocean breezes and from almost every corner of the property you’ll be able to enjoy a sparkling ocean view. The living room has plenty of comfy seating for kicking back & reading a book or (if you can bear to look away from the view), chilling and watch the Smart TV. Huge doors on 3 walls lead to outside spaces overlooking the islands and various idyllic spots to enjoy the sunshine and views.
Owner Susan is a keen cook and it shows in the attention to detail in the kitchen. You’ll have everything you need and more from pots, pans, crockery, stainless steel fridge freezer, oven and dishwasher to ice machine, cappuccino machine, frozen drink maker, juicer, AND there’s even an ocean view to enjoy whilst you’re doing the dishes. The kitchen flows through to an indoor dining room with again, gorgeous views and access to the pool area and outdoor dining space.
Both bedrooms are their own private sanctuary, with ensuite bathrooms, California King beds, Egyptian cotton sheets, choice of AC or ceiling fans, private balconies and doors that open to let in the ocean breezes and sounds of the surf. The master bedroom’s ensuite has the addition of an outdoor shower (trust us, showering under the stars is good for the soul) and the doors in the bedroom also open right into the pool so you can literally step out of bed and jump in for a swim. You’ll also find a washer & dryer in the suite for your convenience. The guest bedroom has its own mini fridge & there couldn’t be a better spot for a morning coffee than its private balcony overlooking the sea.
THE OUTSIDE
The outdoor spaces are just as important as the indoors at Dun Reach, and you’ll be able to enjoy breath-taking views from all corners. Set into the luscious green hillside overlooking Long Bay, you really do feel a sense of peace and tranquillity here. The crystal pool is at the centre of the home, with loungers to catch some rays, and a stainless steel built-in gas BBQ for grilling. Enjoy dinner with friends in the (covered) outdoor dining area which also has comfy seats to lounge on for those who prefer to relax in the shade.
PLEASE NOTE: ACCESS FROM THE PARKING AREA TO THE FRONT DOOR IS DOWN A STEEP PATHWAY.
ON YOUR DOORSTEP
Dun Reach is in the hills of the exclusive but welcoming Long Bay neighbourhood. A 3min drive (or 10min walk down but very steep walk back up) will take you down into the heart of Long Bay where you’ll find a mile-long stretch of white sand and turquoise waters and a selection of beachfront refreshment options – 1748 Restaurant, Tropical Fusion, Johnny’s Beach Bar and 1748 Coffee Shop. If you’re feeling energetic there’s Long Bay Beach Resort’s Tennis and Pickleball courts. A day pass will buy you hours of fun! There’s also the gym which you can buy a monthly membership to or for something a bit more relaxing, a beautiful new spa with plenty of treatments to choose from.
Smuggler’s Cove is 5 mins drive away and an idyllic beach, perfectly sheltered by its vibrant reef which provides sensational snorkelling and is home to Patricia’s laid-back beach bar.
Apple Bay is just few mins away too, with its little village with world-class surf and a handful of bars and restaurants (Sebastian’s Seaside Grille, Sugar Mill, Tramonti) for all occasions.
At Soper’s Hole Marina (10min drive) you’ll find West End Ferry Terminal (where you can catch boats to fellow British Virgin Island Jost Van Dyke and US Virgin Islands St John and St Thomas) and a great selection of restaurants, a well-stocked grocery store, boat charter companies, shops and more.
