But there’s no doubting there is so much beauty and culture to see on the other British Virgin Islands. Here are our tips for the largest three:
Anegada (Spanish for “Drowned Land”) is our absolute favourite island to visit. It’s stunning, remote and a little bit
magical – it feels like anything is possible there. In contrast to Tortola’s volcanic base, mountainous terrain, and lush
tropical foliage, Anegada is a bed of coral and limestone with it’s highest point just 28ft above sea-level. Much of the coastline is bordered by powdery white sand beaches that are protected by one of the Caribbean’s largest barrier reefs, Horseshoe Reef.
Over 300 shipwrecks now form part of this beautifully unique ecosystem providing insane snorkelling, scuba-diving & fishing, while kitesurfing is a thrill amidst such natural beauty, and the conch mound is an unusual sight if you’re
exploring by boat.
Anegada is approximately 15 square miles small, and a handful of roads will take you around the entire island through
untamed vegetation that’s home to an array of wonderful wildlife. Don’t be surprised by wandering cows, goats, donkeys and sheep and do stop off at one of the viewing points to see the Caribbean flamingos hanging out at the salt ponds. If you’re very lucky, you may even catch a glimpse of the very rare Anegada rock iguanas. If you’re looking for somewhere to hang out for the afternoon, ANEGADA BEACH CLUB is an island favourite. With a long stretch of beach, a small and tranquil spa, a restaurant with an ocean breeze and a pool free to use for customers, it really does have everything.
Anegada is truly home to some of the most unspoilt and deserted beaches you’ll find anywhere. Loblolly Beach is no exception to this, with incredible snorkelling, soft white sand sprinkled with beautiful shells and no one else in sight. Oh, and did we mention the lobster? You’ll find freshly caught lobster on the menu for breakfast, lunch and dinner everywhere on island! What’s not to love?
TOP TIP: While scooters sound like fun, BE WARNED! Many of the roads are dirt/sand tracks where it’s easy to wipe
out and the grazes are not pretty!

Another island with its own unique personality and landscape, Virgin Gorda is the third largest and second-most
populous of the British Virgin Islands and home to some 2000 residents. It is the perfect place for a day trip with regular ferries running from Road Town and Beef Island. By ferry, you will arrive into Spanish Town, the most populated part of the island with a little hub of shops, restaurants and grocery stores.
Virgin Gorda is arguably the most beautiful of all of the British Virgin Islands with many spectacular hiking trails and
view points. A trip to the world famous BATHS at Devil’s bay is a must – here you’ll find an extraordinary landscape of
smooth granite boulders on the beach, creating caves and turquoise blue pools. Often, you’ll find yourself one of a few exploring these magical grottos but it can get very busy if there’s cruise shippers visiting so check the schedule here: BVI CRUISE SHIP SCHEDULE
The less busy SPRING BAY is a personal favourite, with all of the best things about The Baths without the crowds. Another spectacular beach that you’ll more than likely have to yourself is SAVANNAH BAY where you can enjoy some excellent snorkelling.
VG’s home to some of the best resorts, spas and restaurants in BVI including COCO MAYA, a glamorous and unforgettable beach-front restaurant that specialises in South East Asia & Latin American flavours with a touch of Caribbean. Another must-visit is the North Sound. It’s an incredibly unique and beautiful area at the Northern tip of Virgin Gorda which is home to some of the most iconic and luxurious resorts in BVI. Making for an unforgettable experience, resorts OIL NUT BAY, BITTER END YACHT CLUB and SABA ROCK are reached by water taxi and each have a distinct personality. Neighbouring Richard Branson’s Necker Island and Larry Page’s Eustatia Island, this is the place to come and do some celeb-spotting. To reach nearly all of the resorts, you will need to catch your water taxi from Gun Creek. Gun Creek is the other side of the island to the Virgin Gorda ferry dock and about a 20 minute drive.
