Space
LIVING AREAS:
Designed around an open patio and covered porches, Towanda is split over 3 pavilions. With large mahogany doors set into a vine-draped wall at the end of the driveway, entering Towanda is like entering your very own private paradise.
Beyond these doors a zen-like brick path leads to the open-plan, alfresco style main house. The first room you’ll come to is a living room complete with comfy seating, amazing ocean views, and (if you can bear to tear your eyes away from the vistas) a SmartTV with FLOW cable.

Adjacent to the living room is the well-equipped gourmet kitchen including stainless steel gas oven with stove, dishwasher, and large fridge /freezer and the most beautiful views you could ever wish for as you wash dishes at the kitchen sink! You’ll find a washer and dryer in the laundry room off the half bathroom on the pool deck. Various doors lead off from the main house to comfortable outdoor dining and sitting areas and THOSE views.

BEDROOMS & BATHROOMS:
The bright and artfully designed bedrooms are located in the next 2 pavilions and afford privacy for everyone as well as air-conditioned spaces in the heat of summer.

1&2) Exterior stairs lead up from the pool deck to 2 upper suites equipped with queen size beds, ensuite bathrooms and sweeping azure vistas. Both bedrooms are furnished with beautiful dark custom cabinetry for a clean, polished feel with exotic touches from antique chandeliers in the bathrooms, wood carvings, local basketry and family heirlooms. There’s also a fabulous stone waterfall alfresco shower off one of these rooms. An outdoor sun trap with sun-lounger is sandwiched between the 2 suites and you’ll enjoy ocean views and breezes from eithers’ private decks. Towanda offers a quiet spot for everyone.

3)The pool level suite in the 3rd pavilion brings a taste of Morocco, with its coloured glass lanterns and vibrant green, yellow and orange decor. This bedroom has twin beds that can be made up as a king as well as a vintage daybed, walk-in closet and large private alfresco shower and a covered porch with of course, ocean views.

STEP OUTSIDE:
Inside and outside flow so seamlessly at Towanda that sometimes they feel like the same thing. Your dining area will be a poolside covered porch just outside the kitchen complete with gas BBQ for grilling up a feast.
Custom made Balinese teak sun-loungers are spread around the pool and a hammock offers comfortable lounging in either sun or shade. Your beautiful pool is a wonderful place to cool off or sit with a sundowner and enjoy the sweeping views over the deep blue and neighbouring islands. A washroom is located off the pool deck as well as an outdoor fresh-water shower for a quick rinse.

HOUSEKEEPING: is midweek every 5-7 days. All linen and towels will be changed and a general cleaning will be done. Daily housecleaning can be arranged at your own expense.

PARKING: There is driveway parking for your convenience – no long slog with shopping bags or suitcases!

Neighborhood
Towanda is located in the exclusive but welcoming rural hillside estate of Belmont in the West End of Tortola. You can drive to Long Bay beach & restaurants in under 10 minutes or take a pretty 30min walk down but a pretty steep one back up! Belmont Salt Pond below is a natural reserve and important ecosystem that regularly attracts flamingos (there are 8 there this week as I write this).

LONG BAY (0.8 miles away)
At Long Bay you’ll find a mile-long stretch of white sand & turquoise waters & a selection of beachfront refreshment options – 1748 Restaurant, Tropical Fusion, Johnny’s Beach Bar & 1748 Coffee Shop. If you’re feeling energetic there’s Long Bay Beach Resort’s Tennis & Pickleball courts. A day pass will buy you hours of fun! Gym passes also available as well as a spa for a little pampering. You can also purchase a pool pass for the day ($100 pp incl $75 food & beverage credit & access to the pool. Under 12’s are free)

APPLE BAY (1.2 miles away)
A little village with world-class winter surf & a handful of bars and restaurants (Nardie’s Beach Bar at Sebastian’s, The Sugar Mill, Tramonti) for all occasions.

SMUGGLER’S COVE (1.4 miles away)
Smuggler’s Cove is idyllic & perfectly sheltered by its vibrant reef which provides sensational snorkeling & is home to Patricia’s laid-back beach bar. *cruise ship passengers sometimes come here so look online for the “BVI cruise ship schedule” to avoid the busier days.

CARROT BAY (2 miles away)
A charming village where you’ll find local fisherman, fruit stalls, North Shore Shell Museum and D’Coal Pot restaurant.

SOPER’S HOLE MARINA (3.5 miles away)
Here you’ll find a great selection of restaurants (Omar’s Coffee House, Admiral’s Pub, Omar's at the SandSpit & Pusser’s Landing), a well-stocked grocery store, boat charter companies, shops, Driftwood Spa & more. West End Ferry Terminal is opposite (where you can catch ferries & water taxis to fellow British Virgin Island Jost Van Dyke and US Virgin Islands St John & St Thomas). Enquire with Soper’s Hole Marina & Lighthouse Marina for dock space if you have a boat.

WINDY HILL (3 miles away)
Head to Stoutt’s Lookout for a chilled beer with an incredible view over the bay or Bananakeet (Heritage Inn) restaurant for one of the best dinner spots to watch the sunset on island.

CANE GARDEN BAY (4.2 miles away)
The buzziest beach on island, you’ll find a whole variety of Restaurants & Bars (Indigo Beach House, Elms, Paradise Bar, Myett’s plus many more) lining the water. You’ll also find a small grocery store, a white sand beach with calm swimming & options for watersports & Callwood’s Rum Distillery. *all these amenities mean that the cruise ship passengers come here, so look online for the “BVI cruise ship schedule” to avoid the busier days.

Our role is to make sure that the property is always in tip-top condition & that you have the best vacation possible. Tortola is our home, we know our villas inside-out & we’re happy to answer any questions you may have about the property ahead of time.

Transit
TERRANCE B. LETTSOME AIRPORT (EIS) (18.7 miles away)
is on Beef Island in the East End of Tortola (connected by bridge). It’s the only airport on Tortola and where you’ll fly into.

WEST END FERRY HARBOUR (3.6 miles away)
The closest place to catch a ferry to connect you to the US Virgin Islands (St Thomas & St John) and fellow BVI Jost Van Dyke

Although there are ferries to connect you to other islands, the public transport in Tortola is basically non-existent and there’s so much to go and see but taxis add up quickly. Tortola is only 14 miles long by 3 miles at its widest, but it’s a mountainous island and the roads can be quite rugged. We can help you to reserve a 4WD SUV or direct you to recommended local car rental companies who understand that good 4WD vehicles are mandatory to explore with confidence. They can offer delivery to your port of entry or villa (we can help organise you a taxi to take you to the property) & carry a selection of cars & jeeps. Jerry’s Car Rental is our favourite and the easiest car rental company to work with online.

Cancellation Policy

All cancellations and any request for changes to your reservation (such as date changes or changes in the number of persons) must be made in writing by email and will be dealt with on a case for case basis.

- For cancellations received 61 days or more prior to your arrival 10% of your rental amount will be charged as a cancellation fee.

- For cancellations received 60 days or less prior to arrival 100% of your TOTAL is forfeited. If we’re able to
re-book the villa to another guest we will return to you 80% of the rent paid by the new guests for the
nights rebooked (the nights might be rented at a “last minute” discounted rate that’s less than you
originally paid).

- There will be no refund made for late arrivals or early departures.

Deposit Policy

PAYMENT POLICY
Once you reserve a property a deposit of 50% is due to confirm the reservation. The balance of 50% + the refundable damage deposit must be paid in full at least 60 days prior to your arrival. *If paying by credit card, Refundable Damage Deposits will not be charged until arrival.

It is beautifully designed and furnished. The surrounding landscape is enchanting with mature tropical plantings.
For our group the layout was excellent with bedrooms in their own pavilions. The kitchen is entirely open to the outside looking out to a covered porch with the view beyond. For us, the house was perfect as we appreciate the integration of the interior and exterior. We never turned on the AC as all rooms have cross ventilation and sited high on the hill the trade winds keep the spaces cool. We look forward to returning.

Plenty of room for our family and the view was amazing!! I could live here!! Sadly we were only there one night but we will be back for sure. Just beautiful!!

Ah Towanda! The perfect house for 3 couples. Equal bedrooms & baths plus plenty of room for alone time. The view is spectacular, along with the privacy and quiet setting, who could ask for more. This is our 6th trip to Tortola and by far the best Villa we have rented. Of course with a view like this there is one drawback, the drive up the mountain. But with 4 wheel drive and after 2-3 trips it was a piece of cake. The kitchen is loaded with all the stuff you will need to eat, drink and be merry. New beach chairs were a big plus. Had many people ask us on the beaches "Where did you get those chairs". Evidently many rentals do not include beach chairs. This is a must on Tortola as most of the beaches do not have any facilities. Do not be afraid to deal with the wiring of money to France (even though VRBO says not to wire money) the owner is very easy to deal with and everything went great. We loved Towanda and Tortola and hope to return soon.

I wanted to let you know how much we enjoyed our trip to Tortola and your beautiful home! While the pictures looked promising the actual experience was well beyond our expectations, you have done such a lovely job with the design and details. We really enjoyed nothing more than drinking coffee early in the morning looking out over jost van dyke. JC, Sam and the rest of the house team did a great job of taking care of us as well. We very much look forward to returning to Towanda.

And if you are ever in New York please do let us know, we would love to take you out for a drink.
